Standalone Drug Plans - Part D
A drug plan is needed. If you go 63 days without a creditable drug plan in place, you will pay a penalty of 1% of the average USA drug plan cost for every month you go without a drug plan. This penalty is added to the drug plan premium and will remain with you for as long as you have a drug plan in place.

Drug plans can be standalone or part of the all-inclusive Medicare Advantage plans.
For 2025, there are significant changes to drug plans across the board with Medicare. Medicare has been given authority to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies to achieve better pricing for seniors. And the Inflation reduction act, among many things, has helped to improve the cost structure of drug plans with Medicare across the board.
The new model no longer has a “donut hole” and the Catastrophic Stage has been reduced from $8,000 annually to $2,000. A significant improvement. Also new to the model is the inclusion of an optional payment plan that one can use to break their drug costs down into a monthly cost instead of a lump sum payment. Speak with your agent about specifics.
